The Twelve Foundation Stones · Revelation 21:19–20

Twelve stones. Every one splits light.

Each foundation of the New Jerusalem is a named gemstone. Read against modern gemology, all twelve share one property: birefringence. Each divides a single ray of light into two. Not one cubic, non-splitting stone appears in the list. A property no one could observe until 1669, roughly sixteen centuries after the text.
